8/17/06 - Sarge has been adopted.

8/8/06 - Sarge is pending adoption

5/9/06 - Sarge, still sweet as can be, continues to do well in our home...he has won over the hearts of both my pugs, even Siggy who wasn't thrilled with him at first. Now he's just one of the boys.
Now that the weather is nice it's hard to keep Sarge inside. He just wants to get out in that yard and play with his ball all day long. To watch him run across the yard you would never know he has any weakness in his legs. He's also great at Frisbee, except that he likes to rip it apart when he catches it....needless to stay we've been sticking with the ball.
The warmer weather has also cut down on the pee pee accidents as he's happy to go out any time we offer. We've been putting the new diaper on him at night and have had great success. We put it on him during the day only when we'll be gone for more than a couple of hours since he has such sensitive skin.

Sarge has been with our family for more then a few months. I guess there are not a lot of people out there looking for a senior dog. What a shame, because this guy is a gem. We love him to death, and know we will miss him terrible, but we also know he deserves his very own family. Trust me, this boy is a perfect example of this great breed, and I know you are gonna love this boy as much as we do.

5/1/06 - Sarge is a very loveable, eleven year old English Bulldog. We have been fostering him since December when his owner turned him into the rescue, heartbroken and unable to keep him due to circumstances beyond her control. He is a sweet boy who wants nothing more than for someone to scratch behind his ears and give him lots of attention. He is very affectionate, gives lots of kisses and loves to snuggle with us on the couch. He is great with my kids (ages 6 & 2) and my two pugs. We recently discovered that he loves to play with balls, the bigger the better. He will play with his big red indestructible ball for hours just pushing it around the house or yard until he is exhausted - very funny to watch. We eventually have to take it away so he can rest! Though quite spry for a senior, Sarge does have some weakness in his back legs due to an old spinal injury, which makes a home with a lot of stairs very challenging for him. He has difficulty going up and down the steps on his own, though he will attempt them if they are not too steep, and carpeting does make it easier. He does OK on the few steps on the porch in our house but we carry him up and down inside. Funny that he has no trouble getting up on the couch though. :) His back legs slip and slide under him at times (especially on the wood floors) but he has no trouble getting around the house or the yard. Also, as a result of his injury he doesn't seem to know when he has to poop. He gets up and runs to the door as it's happening. Lucky for us that he usually goes only once a day, around the same time and they are hard nuggets so it's no big deal to clean up after him if he goes in the house. Sarge is a typical bulldog in that he can be very stubborn. He doesn't like to go outside when it's cold....he pees and wants to come in right away (unless he sees his ball). He needs to be taken out every 2-3 hours or so during the day to avoid pee accidents (he leaks when his bladder is full without realizing it), so finding a family with someone at home or with a doggie door would be best. We recently had an ultrasound performed on him to rule out the possibility of a tumor causing his pee accidents. The news was good, no tumor causing the problem. Instead the vet determined that the old spinal injury is what is causing the accidents. He is not completely incontinent. He does tell us when he wants to go out, either by barking or standing by the door or both. If we can get him out every few hours he does really well. In the evening he's mostly crashed out with us and his canine siblings on the couch and doesn't have to go out that often. We put him out before bed and he's good until the morning, though as soon as he's up we need to get him out right away and he doesn't always make it to the door. He doesn't mind wearing a doggie diaper, which we've starting to put on him at night incase we're not quick enough in the morning. We just ordered him a new diaper that I think will work better since the one we are currently using sometimes slips down on him. Sarge is such a sweetheart, he just needs a little TLC. He is sure to repay you with lots of love and slobbery kisses. If you are interested in adopting Sarge please fill out an application and ask for this boy by name. You will be justly rewarded with this wonderful sr boy!

9/12/04 - Sarge has been adopted.

7/24/04 - Sarge has been back with me for about a week now. His family split up and he needs to find a new home. As I write this Sarge is sleeping (snoring) to my left sucking on his blankie. He is a good boy and gets along fine with the other dogs in the home. He barks only when left alone or if one of my other dogs is blocking his way to get to me.
Due to his older age Sarge has incontinent bowels and will have a bowel movement unbeknownst to him.  There is nothing to do to correct this, his new family will have to love him for who he is and be willing to deal with this and not get upset with him.
If you are interested in this boy please fill out an application at www.boxerangelsrescue.com and list him as dog interested in.
If you have hardwood floors his problem shouldn't be too big of a deal.
I love him and he is safe here so serious inquiries ONLY. Thanks for considering a rescue dog.

4/19/04 - Sarge is doing fine - he just went to the vet and received all his updated shots and he was just re-licensed.  His allergies are in full swing now and the meds he is on are making him lose control of his bladder even more than before so, to say the least, keeping up with his messes have been a challenge.  It is hard to get mad at him though because he doesn't mean to do it and he tries so hard to get outside but, most of the time, he just doesn't make it.

His legs are still weak and he usually drags them around behind him.  When they are working fine, he is running everywhere -  he gets plenty of exercise, eats well (he is up to 61 lbs.) and enjoys sleeping in this little strip of sun that comes in through the skylight in the mornings.  His ears have always been very gunky and they still are but he still lets me clean them so we have it under control.
He is great friends now with our two other dogs, Shaggy a 3-year old purebred St. Bernard and Scooby our 4-year old purebred Bullmastiff.  They all know there place here and everyone now gets along fine.
He has finally toned down the barking - it was brutal there for a while - the dog barked constantly.  Now he has calmed down a bit and let the resident watch dog (Shaggy) do the barking.

6/24/03 - He is doing great and has put on a lot of weight. He had a slight case of mange and a UTI which is now coming under control. Barkley is starting to settle in pretty well with the other dogs at this point also.
He has a great appetite and still really loves his bowling ball...so much so
that it had to be put up.

5/24/03 - Sarge is doing well in some areas but not well in others. He is eating well and enjoys his snacks and chew bones throughout the day and is usually the first in line for his meals. He can outlast and outplay everyone else in the house (people and dogs) and is the most relentless animal we have ever encountered. He demands that things are done the way he wants them to be done and he gets quite spiteful when they aren't. We are still having a horrible time of his peeing in the house and we continue to try to remember that he is an older dog and is set in his ways. He must have either been terribly spoiled at one time or terribly abused because he is so sweet one moment and horrible the next. He takes extreme patience because we love him and are trying our best to give him a great forever home but he continues to do things that are exasperating for (what seems like) no reason. He still attempts to hump the other dogs, despite the neutering, but he always ends up realizing that, at 50 lbs, he is no match for their 220lbs and 240lbs respectively. He barks constantly, at anything and everything, only goes outside when he feels like it and gets mad wen he has to do something he doesn't want to do. He has peed on just about everything in this house, including our bed! and has chewed everything from pillows, to soft balls to basketballs to blankets to rugs. We had the whole house steam cleaned and he trashed it again. He has been groomed and is tick and flea free and his ears are clearing up (when he got here, his ears were caked with infectious crud. He lets me clean them out often and he likes his baths now - I think he feels better. Overall, he seems happy and he does have the life many dogs dream of - I think the things that are frustrating us have to do with his past and it will just take time for him to realize that he is set here. Thank you .

4/3/03 - Bentley has been adopted.

3/20/03 -Hi all...I recently received an English bulldog for fostering. His name is Barkley and he is so cute. A well built boy in great shape. I brought him into my home and he is fine with the other dogs and wants to play with them all:o) I also have a bowling ball in the computer room here that I moved into his extra large crate with him..he is in love with this ball...he wants to roll it around and chew it up. He is very active for a 9 yr old boy. He was an owner surrender I received locally due to a change in family life. They loved Barley but were no longer able to care for him and wanted what was best. Please watch for updates on this great boy...
