Recent Testimonials from Adopters of BAR Dogs
4/27/08 - It is true what they say about a rescue dog having so much love to give. Everything I ever needed in a dog, Holly has. She wiggles every time someone comes in the door, will play endlessly with us or her toys, and is ready to cuddle as soon as she realizes that we are worn out. It helps too that she doesn't care when we laugh at all the funny things she does. Half the joy of bringing Holly home has been the laughter she generates with her butt wiggling antics and her funny faces, but really it feels great watching her become completely comfortable and a part of our home.

I
just wanted to let all of you know that Tippy is doing wonderful in her
new home. She and Jake, our male Dobe are fast friends and play
from the minute they wake up until they hit their dog beds at night.
It has really worked out much better than we could have hoped for.
Besides having the joy that comes along with owning Tippy Gore ( as I
call her )there has been such a dramatic change for the better in Jake!
He is so much calmer and better behaved. We had a huge pool party
a few weeks ago, and both dogs roamed freely and were perfect!
Tippy has learned the underground fence with no problem, but we still
don't let her out yet alone...better safe than sorry! We leave both dogs
free together in the house when we go somewhere, and they are fine - no
accidents or problems of any sort. I'll email some pics so you can see
her guarding the pool from invading frogs! She is a sweetheart and so
much fun to have around - thank you again
for helping to bring her into our lives! Leslie, Hank & Jake
4/11/07 - Snoop has
been with us for 5 days now, and it feels as if he has been with us for
his whole life! He has adjusted well to our routine, and gets along
wonderfully with our other Boxer boy of the same age. Neither one of
them acts like they are "seniors", and after they play, they take nice
long naps, sometimes together all curled up on one bed! I think our
other Boxer, Cain is very glad to have a furry friend back in his pack.
Snoop is still very thin, but he is eating like a champ, and we hope to
see some weight gain very soon. He was a bit crazy on the leash at
first, but we use the Cesar Millan (and others) style of walking with
the collar behind the ears, and him next to us. He caught right on, and
needs very few reminders to "heel" while on our daily walks together as
a pack.
Snoop is one of the sweetest, and most well-behaved dogs we have ever
met. If anyone out there reading this has ever considered adopting a
senior, please know that it is a wonderful experience! He is already
fully trained, respectful, and is a stable, calm, loving dog. The
transition to having a new family member in the house could not have
been easier! Thank you, BAR, and Snoop's foster mommy,
Carrie for connecting us with our new boy- we love him!
2/24/07 - "Tyson" has adjusted
unbelievably well. He and our older boxer, "Jake" (11 yrs.) get along so
well you'd swear they were raised together...never had any kind of
problem AT ALL!
Our grandchildren love Tyson and smother him with attention and
affection...Tyson just loves it.
We have some pet chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese that have free range
of our property during the day...Tyson has accepted them from day
one...never chased, barked etc. Seems the "critters" accept him...Tyson
goes up to them...they just walk away, don't run or fly...one of the
turkey's perched on his back once for a few seconds... Tyson moved...the
bird jumped off and that was it.
Tyson (& Jake) are with me always...we walk everyday... Tyson loves to
ride...must not have ridden in a car much before...he's just beginning
to learn how to "anticipate" a coming curve or turn and prepare for it
by "leaning" into it...he's funny to watch...trying to master this
little technique.
Our house has "hard-wood" floors throughout...we have lots of oriental
carpets and rugs...it's hilarious to watch Tyson sit on a rug...front
paws on the wood...the rug slowly begins to slide backwards (along with
Tyson's "butt") and Tyson comes to a soft "landing" on his belly. He's
still trying to figure out what happened.
Tyson is the first dog we have ever adopted...what a great
experience..."kudo's" and thank yous go out to BAR and all your
wonderful volunteers...what a great organization.
We learned about BAR from our daughter-in-law (her family adopted
"Buddy" last year) and she got us hooked. We have some friends who we
have just got "hooked" and they are going to adopt from BAR...I just
downloaded the app. for them to complete.
Thanks again BAR for making it possible for Tyson to come join our
home...he's a "perfect" fit and really is one of the family!
Cheers, Peter & Marie

I just wanted to give you an update on my
beloved Cleo. She is the MOST WONDERFUL DOG!!! My
family and I are so in love with her. She is so gentle and loving.
She listens wonderfully. Everyone who meets her just gives her so
much praise. She has definitely won our hearts. Thank you so
much BAR for allowing us this special gift of love.
9/21/06 - Hello! It's been quite awhile since we've updated on Tyson, so I thought we'd drop in with a quick note. Tyson is happy and wiggly as always, and we love him to death. He was very happy when his mommy and daddy got married in April, and he even got to wear a tuxedo! Always a little bit on the chubby side, he lost a few lbs when we were on our honeymoon and is now a mean, lean 62lbs. Apparently he let his little brother eat all of his food while we were away so they switched sizes! (Our other boxer was always the lean one, and now he's looking chubby!) Our life has never been the same since we adopted Tyson, it's been so much better! Tyson is always the one everyone loves to meet. His only problem? His uncontrollable licking! Tyson firmly believes that each and every person he meets deserves a face cleaning, and his little nubbin shakes so hard during those times, I almost think it'll wiggle right off! We're currently searching for a new home with a big backyard for the boys to romp around in, and each place we look at has to meet our doggie's requirements. Adopting Tyson has been such a blessing, and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for placing Tyson with us!
7/31/06 - Gumbie is doing just fine. He has found his spot in our pack. He still is a challenge when the door bell rings, however we accept that as part of him. He has been diagnosed with Senile Dementia. We noticed that he sometimes looks lost in the house and is wetting during the day and at night. He sometimes forgets that I'm home with him and gets all excited to see me. He does not realize that he is incontinent. The doc said this is the start of dementia. He is lucky because I am home with him all day and I reassure him that everything is ok. We started him on low doses of Proin, after urine test were neg., and that helps alot. We're taking things one day at a time with him, we love him dearly. I recently found out that one of my sons friends has adopted through BAR and we are so proud to be a small part of a great organization. I tell everyone to do this. No more breeders for us, this is the way to really make a difference in a dogs life. Thank You BAR!!
7/1/06 - Rory has been part
of our family for three weeks now. We can't imagine life without her.
She and Rocky are absolutely inseparable. They eat, sleep, and play
together. We have been leashing them together on their daily walks, and
Rocky has been teaching Rory to keep a nice pace, not to pull, and to
stop when he says so (he sits down, so she has no choice! ha ha!) Rory
only has an occasional accident in the house now, usually when one of
the 2-leggers has not noticed her at the door to go
out. We have been working on getting her not to jump, and she is doing
better, although far from perfect. Starting the Wednesday after the 4th
Rory, my daughter Sarah & I will be starting Basic Obedience classes.
The basic course will run 6-7 weeks, and then, if we graduate, we will
move on to an inter class. Our goal is to have Rory earn the AKC Canine
Good Citizen standing. She is tremendously smart, so we don't expect
there to be any problem with her doing well.
Rory loves to sit on our laps, we go for rides and get Dunkin Donuts
every morning, then head to the park for a walk. She does wonderfully
not chasing or barking at the other 2 & 4 legged creatures. She's just
happy to be out with the pack. Her appetite is great! She has claimed
1/2 the couch,
so now the people are forced to sit under two boxers if they insist on
using the couch too! At least we are all warm & cozy!
Rory has a great personality. She is funny, sweet and charming. We all
just adore her and are all so happy that BAR found us worthy to receive
her special love! Thanks so much! Kim
7/5/06 -
Hello again. Here to report
on our lovely Duncan. He's been part of our family for about three
months now. We feel as if he's been part of our lives for a much
longer time. It's hard to imagine our lives without our gorgeous
little gargoyle. We actually think he's the Johnny Depp of boxers,
he's just as charming. Today he's decided he needs to take his
frisbee with him everywhere. It's quite funny when he tries to get
it through the doggie door, but he won't give it up. It's hard,
it's plastic but it's like his own little teddy bear, of course he's
taken the insides out of all his teddys and plays with the empty shell.
Did I mention that Duncan was charming? He makes us smile all the
time.
He is a sweetheart and we couldn't imagine greeting each morning without
him. He is the sunshine of our lives. Thank you Boxer Angels
for our very own shiny angel boy.
6/9/06 - I just wanted to let everyone know that Cleo is one of the best things to happen to our family. SHE IS WONDERFUL!!! I cannot say how beautiful, smart, loving, obedient, tolerable, gently girl she is!!! My family and I have been so happy since her arrival. My children absolutely adore her!!! We have had absolutely no trouble with her what-so-ever. It's like she has been in our home since she was born. I just wanted to thank your organization in allowing us the chance to bring Cleo into our home.
4/11/06 - It truly is amazing to me that it has only been just over 6 months since we picked Mya up. I feel like she has always been a part of our family and I can't imagine what life would be like with out her. She just fits in so perfectly. Mya and our other boxer Buster are the BEST of buddies...they box & chase each other all over the yard and after they have worn each other out they fall asleep on top of each other. They are so loving and playful not only w/each other but w/everyone in general. The experience of adopting a rescue (that I can't imagine how anyone was able to give her up because she is so sweet) is something that I will always cherish. Thanks again to BAR.
4/8/06 - Duncan has now
been with us a week. We love him to bits. He is such a good
boy. Today, my husband said he thought he was the best behaved dog
we've ever had. His new fur sister (Pumpkin, Pumpkin and Duncan,
what are the odds) love him too, although she is often exhausted by
their playtime. Where Pumpkin galumps, Duncan springs around the
backyard. He is a coiled spring. In fact, I call him my
little James Cagney. He's a little tough guy with a heart of gold.
It was so funny, when my husband first saw his pictures he said he
looked like a gargoyle, we're used to boxer mixes, but when he met him
he called him a handsome boy. He is beautiful, a gorgeous red
color. He's small, I call him my pocket boxer, but he packs a lot
of character into that small body.
Duncan learned the doggie door quickly, except for occasionally getting
hit in the face when it swings back. He has the same problem with
Pumpkin's undocked tail, which he obviously finds a very puzzling and
unnecessary addition to any dog. In Pumpkin's defense, in regards
to Duncan's little stub, she is probably saying to Duncan, "Stop wagging
that thing before you put out somebody's eye."
We took him to our vet yesterday, and you'd think we were going to
Disneyland. He loved everyone there and let them know it. He
is the sweetest boy. He loves everyone he meets.
The cat is still not one of his great fans. He has gotten swatted
a couple of times but is like the energizer bunny and keeps going and
going and going back for more. He just wants to see what she's
doing most of the time. I have been working with him, thanks to
the advice of Carrie, his foster mom, and we seem to be making some
progress. He doesn't want to hurt her, he just wants to be close
to her. She has different ideas.
Well, that's about it for now. I just want to thank BAR for
helping us find this adorable boy. He is such a wonderful addition
to our family. My kids keep saying it feels like he's been living
with us forever. We're all so comfortable together.
2/6/06 - Well....what can I say except we couldn't be happier. Petey is such a joy !! And he is so beautiful, and he knows it , you get out a camera and he and my 3 yr old daughter pose !!! LOL They are inseparable now ....We call them the dynamic duo. haha When we picked up Petey we knew that he was a wonderful dog but we couldn't have know just how loving ,playful and entertaining he would be . He is quite a character , he loves to show off !! We will be having his photo done soon and we will be sending one. I have to thank you again ....if it wasn't for all of you we would of never found Petey and already we can not imagine life without him.
1/15/06 - I know this update isn't necessary, but today marks one year that Nick came to me. I just wanted everyone to know that he's doing swell and enjoying his sister -- I'll send a photo along for posting. He's a Delta-certified therapy dog and enjoys visits to nursing homes with me. Thank you, BAR, for enriching my life with Nick!
12/6/05 - Damon Dog! That, along with Baby Dog (Danzig having 20 pounds up on Damon) and Bubba Gump are some of Damon's new nicknames. He's such a good boy--I can definitely tell how happy he is that he came to live with us. He'll often come into the putter room and stand up with his front paws on my lap to give me hugs while I'm typing. He could definitely be an agility dog. We knew Damon could jump high, but how graceful he is doing it is amazing. He can jump up and over something from a standing position easily. He and Danzig had a blast in the snow, playing and running around the yard like two horses galloping. We have yet to set up our Xmas tree, but I'm curious to see how he reacts to it. More than one Boxer is definitely the way to go--Best thing we ever did was rescue to a two Boxer home!
12/5/05 - Well Lucky is doing great at our house. He is getting along great with our other boxer Maya. They play all the time. Oh I should also say that we have changed his name to Mugsy. He seems to like the new name. His food change over went well at his foster home, and now that he is at our house he is doing great with food. He is such a love bug. if he could he would sit and sleep on the couch with me for hours.. But Maya will not hear of that, she wants to play all the time. So Mugsy only gets to rest a little bit of the time, then it’s off the play. And they love going on walks together. We took them to this park near by the house on sat and they just loved it... it was a little cold so we didn't stay out to long. But they both slept great that night. I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped us get this great dog. He has brought such joy to our house.
11/10/05 - It has been a few months since our last update. We had a
very sudden and tragic loss just a couple of weeks ago, my mother passed away
suddenly. She lived next door to us and of course she was in and out of
our house and lives as we were hers. Hoover seems to miss her when we go
into her house, it is right next door to ours. He runs around the house
with our other two silky terriers trying to find Grammy. She would always
have treats for them and of course they were the best, you know. She
bought club crackers to keep as treats for our dogs since they do not get people
food other than the crackers from Grammy.
Hoover has been doing really well and hardly makes any mistakes anymore.
He still does not like the crate and continues to lick it when he is put in
there. We are getting ready to visit my brother and his family over
Christmas in South Carolina and the dogs are going too! When we were there
this summer we did not take Hoover, Levi and Jeepers but they are going this
time. My brother lives on 20+ acres and has 11 dogs and more cats than we
can count. He seems to be the drop off point for all the strays in the
area and he takes them for their checkups and shots and has them spayed or
neutered when they come to live with him. He has a variety but all get
along great. He brought a couple with him to our house the other week and
Hoover just loved them. We are sure all will be fine over Christmas as our
dogs seem to take well to whatever we bring home.
Since my mother's passing we have brought her cat to live with us and she seems
to fit in well, except she hasn't learned not to run by Hoover as he thinks it
is a game and chases her until she turns and stands her ground, then the chicken
runs for cover. Hoover is such a loving and wonderful dogs and we love him
so very much. He has been good for Matthew and since Grammy passed away
Hoover seems to know Matthew needs him more than ever and stays right by his
side. As always, Hoover is the best!!!!
10/28/05 - Thumper is such a fabulous
dog! We have changed his name to Zephyr as it means "gentle breeze"
and that is what his is. Fortunately, it sounds very similar to his
previous name so he responds to it very well. He is such a kind and loving
dog. He absolutely adores our almost 3 year old daughter and is trying his
hardest to be friends with Chyanne, his 7 year old sister and even with the
cats. Everyone is still a little unsure about his presence but I am sure
they will get better with time. He acts as though he has been living here
all along and fits right in with our family. He is truly a very fine
specimen of the Boxer breed. His manners have not been bad at all.
Carrie must have done a very good job in the 3 weeks she had him. I have
absolutely no complaints at all about him and I cannot say enough good things
about your organization. My family is very thankful for the understanding
that your Directors had with out situation in wanting to adopt as soon as
possible due to the loss of our 12 year old Shepherd mix. Our home is now
complete and Zephyr is just the best!!! He certainly knows that he
has found his forever home. Thank you again for making this happen
10/28/05 -
What can I say except we LOVE having Trixy.
She is full of energy and loves to cuddle. She helps me walk my daughters
to school and she has a fan club. I get in trouble from one of the bus
drivers if I don't bring her. She is just so cute and lovable. She is not trying
to escape over the fence anymore thank goodness. I guess she figured out
that she is finally at her forever home. She has been accident free for
three months now, which is nice. She is getting better about the
barking at me to play with her. She has learned just to bring me over the
toy and I will play. Right now she is upstairs sleeping with my daughters
and they just love that. Time to go, she will be down soon to cuddle with me on
the couch.
10/24/05 - I haven't done an update in a while, and I just wanted everyone to know how in love I am with this boxer gal. She has so much personality and is such a good dog. Everyday Lucy has the pleasure of accompanying me to work. I'm a veterinarian and my sister works the reception desk, so Lucy has become our mascot. She stays behind the reception desk to greet the clients. She has become such a presence there that when she's not there, people ask "Where's Lucy today?" She loves her "job" and has a good life with us. Thank you, BAR.
10/20/05 - Well time has quickly passed by and we are about to celebrate having our Rosie for 1 year. We really feel so lucky to have found BAR and have had the opportunity to adopt Rosie. She has been a sweetheart since the first day Carmen walked her through our front door. We recently (in June) adopted Brutus to give Rosie a play companion. They have gotten along great, much to Rosie's credit (she is very patient with Brutus and his tendency to try and hog our affection). Rosie and Brutus play practically all day long. Due to this, Rosie has lost some extra weight and seems to move around more easily. She is much more active and really seems to have more life to her. We thank everyone for giving us the opportunity to add two great additions to our family.
10/20/05 - It's time for an update on Gumbie! He is doing so well here and seems so happy. He is such a gentle dog and loves to be petted. He put on some weight and is doing fine on Reglan. He loves his goodies and walks in the park. He even is showing interest in soft chewy treats and dental bones. His previous dental procedure helped him greatly. However, greeting people at our front door has been a real challenge, as he wants to charge them and tries to act tough. We are working hard to change this behavior and there's been some improvement. He follows me around all day and lets me know when he wants to go to bed. Its funny because he'll just stare at you till you go upstairs and then he wants me to lay with him. We have a special bond and I am so lucky to have him. Adopting a senior has been a wonderful experience. I will do this again. Thanks BAR!
10/19/05 - Wow! Our boy Jake has been with us for a year already!!! It's been a great year. We all celebrated Jake's adoption anniversary with lots of new doggie toys and treats. Jake even enjoyed a large piece of carrot cake to celebrate his special day. We really wanted to take him to the doggie park for a nice walk but the rain wouldn't let up. He's such a happy boy. He's been playing with his new stuffed raccoon all day - he keeps head butting us with it so that we'll play with him. Jake has come some far in just a year. He has filled out so nicely. He is a pleasure to walk on his leash. He loves chasing squirrels and cats. He still hates our mailman and the pizza guy. He loves playing in the backyard with his 4 human siblings. The children adore him as he does them. My husband, Rob, remarked the other day that he couldn't imagine ever loving a dog as much as he loves Jake. Thank you BAR for all that you do. Jake is a wonderful and loving companion for all 6 members of our family. One day, we will add a little white girl to our family, but for now we are content with our big beautiful boy, Jake
10/19/05 - Wow! I can not believe we have had Nikkie for one month already. She fits in so well to our family. Nikkie spends her days playing with her 12 yr old big brother Cody, who she just adores! She has learned all of her basic commands, and we have not even started prof. obedience training yet! She is extremely bright, affectionate, and full of energy. She reminds all of us of our beautiful Mattie who we lost in Aug. in so many ways. I truly think my angel at the bridge whispers in Nikkie's ear from time to time, because it really is amazing to see how much she has the very same personality as her. I am so grateful to BAR for allowing me to be part of your family, and for allowing Nikkie to come in to our lives. She made our broken-hearted family happy & whole again!
10/19/05 - Wow! It's been 1 year since we've adopted
Frankie and the time has flown!! We celebrated his adoption day as his birthday.
He is a full-fledged member of our family. We can't remember what life was like
without Frankie. He still has the most affection and attention for Steven, his
master and friend. My husband comes alive when Frankie's there. The two are a
special pair; true friends. Frankie loves our other dog, Katie and our cat
Scrapper (male). The three are exceptionally "tight" and share their beds with
each other. If I can figure out how to do it, I'll try to send an updated
picture. Steven and I are so grateful to BAR as I know Frankie is also. He'll
live out the rest of his life with us in comfort and freedom and lots of LOVE!
God Bless Boxer Angel Rescue!!!
10/12/05 - Mya was even sweeter than we could have imagined. The pictures on-line really didn't do her justice. She was quite lucky to have the foster family that she did...they were obviously sad to see her go, but at the same time made us feel like we were Mya's perfect match. Deb's daughter even made a picture for Mya to take w/her. She was glued to us as soon as we met her. The car ride home was long, but un-eventful. She slept w/her head on my lap most of the way. When we got home she had a brief introduction to our boxer, Buster & got a chance to check out the house. But what she really couldn't wait for was to run around the back yard. She slept soundly all night on Buster's bed & the next morning introductions between the 2 dogs started again. By that afternoon the 2 of them were running around the backyard & playing like they had known each other forever. Since then it has been nothing but crazy boxer play, followed by lots of naps, and of course tons of wiggles & kisses. This is definitely one of the best decisions we have ever made, and I am so glad we chose to adopt.
