What Is BAR?
Boxer Angels Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit that rescues and places Boxers in the Northeast. The majority of our volunteers are located in NY, NJ, and New England, but we may also work with families in surrounding areas. We do not have a boarding facility, but utilize a foster home system to prepare our dogs for their new adoptive homes. Boxers coming into rescue will spend at least 2 weeks in a foster home being evaluated, during which time they will be being brought up-to-date on vaccinations and be spayed or neutered. All dogs will be evaluated by experienced boxer owners in a family setting. Whenever possible, this will include introductions and interactions with children and family pets. Dogs identified with special issues will be professionally evaluated to insure appropriate placements.
Why Adopt?
BAR Boxers usually come into rescue from shelter referrals or owner surrenders. Many have lived their lives as cherished companions who lost their home through no fault of their own. All BAR dogs spend at least 2 weeks in foster care and all their known history is posted on their available dog page at www.boxerangelsrescue.com. Also foster homes are usually very happy to discuss their fosters with approved applicants. With a BAR dog what you see is what you get, unlike a puppy that will change as he or she grows. Adopting an adult dog can mean skipping the trials of house training, youthful nipping and chewing and other unwanted behaviors. BAR takes in Boxers of all ages from puppies to the often overlooked seniors. Senior and mature Boxers can be a wonderful and easy addition to many homes. Seniors are easy to care for, they are generally over youthful antics, most often house trained and they have enough life experience to really appreciate their adopter as a rescuer.
Fostering With BAR
If you are not in a position to adopt a BAR boxer you may still be able to help BAR by becoming a foster home. BAR pays for all the expenses of its dogs in foster care. Fostering costs absolutely no money only time and care. BAR is an all volunteer organization and is dependant on its foster homes to run. Anyone who meets the requirements to adopt a BAR Boxer is also eligible to foster. Some people chose to adopt a dog and also foster. Others chose to foster and not adopt.
How Exactly Do I Adopt From BAR?
1. You must fill out our online adoption application completely and submit it to BAR at www.boxerangelsrescue.com or you can copy and paste our mail-in application into a word processing program such as Microsoft Word, fill it out and attach it to an email and send it to: boxerangelsdirectors@yahoo.com. Alternately, contact us toll free by phone at 1-877-598-7751 and we will send you an application.
2. You will then be contacted by a representative of BAR to conduct a telephone interview with all adults in the family.
3. The personal and veterinary references provided on your application will be checked by our Reference Checker.
4. You may then be contacted by a BAR representative to schedule a Home Check.
5. Once you are approved our Directors and the individual foster families will work together to "match" each of our Boxers with the "perfect" family.
How Can I Help if I Can't Adopt or Foster?
You can make a donation to BAR or sponsor a specific boxer. Your financial donation will help with things such as: veterinary care, medications, food, collar, leash, dog bed, toys. Boxer Angels Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit corporation, therefore, all donations are tax deductible.
You may make a one time donation or you may continue to sponsor your dog(s) for several months.
You may make donations of $5, $10, $15, $20, $25, or more as little or as often as you like. Should your sponsored dog get adopted the remaining donation will be used to help other needy dogs coming into
rescue. To show our appreciation your name will be displayed on the Sponsored Boxer's page.
